![]() ![]() ![]() Like I’m in between the two extremes of how this game has been received.ġ. I sunk 90 hours into Forbidden West and it left me… feeling weird. Overall, a genuinely empty feeling world padded out with 'my friend went to X or Y but they haven't returned' fetch quests, bad writing and tedious introduction of space people as the big bad.Now you have to go farm for rare parts to unlock the overrides after unlocking them in the Cauldron. For example: in the first you simply have to complete Cauldrons to access overrides. This was a problem in the first game but left totally unchecked here and, in fact, they added a lot more. Slow pickup animations and way too much loot and resources spamming the screen. They added a bunch of rechargeable weapon skills but most of them aren't worth it and you just find yourself falling back on the old methods of stripping parts and finishing fallen machines with R1.This was ok for 2016 but open world mechanics have evolved. Freedom is an illusion and the game design doesn't trust you to tackle problems out of the sequence they want you to. A feeling that many areas - from ruins to Cauldrons to camps - are essentially on-rails.Regalla showed promise as a foe and then they fumble that. Aloy goes from learning that everybody working together can overcome adversity to being sulky, pushing everyone away and endlessly repeating 'I have to do this alone'. Boring story with all the mystery of uncovering the past/what happened to civilisation resolved in the first. ![]() Platinumed the original and enjoyed Frozen Wilds but thirty hours was enough for me with the sequel. ![]()
